On Monday 17th May 2010 we went to Choices For Life. Choices For Life is an event to help children to make the right choices, like to warn people of the danger of what drugs and alcohol can do not just to your body but the people all around you. It started by showing us adverts on alcohol, drugs and smoking abuse. After that Gino and Nikki from the MFR breakfast show told us what was going to happen, and then on the screens we watched three videos about drugs and alcohol. The first one was about Paul. Paul moved to a new place after his mum had died and his dad had remarried and he didn’t get any attention from them, and starting a new school was hard. He said everyone was taking cannabis, and he thought if he didn’t take it aswell no- one would be his friend. The next video was about Emma and Chloe. Chloe was persuading Emma do have a drink of alcohol before a party, and said if she didn’t she wouldn’t be her friend. The last one was about two boys and one had found a bag of what he thought was cannabis and asking if the other wants to take it with him.
Then FortroseAcademy Choir came on and sung a song called Choice For Life, Gino and Nikki came out and introduced Bandito and he sung two songs. Then Choices Family Fortune came on. After that The Wanted came on and sung two songs as well. Then we watched part two of Paul’s Story, Emma and Chloe and about the two boys. Paul told us how he got into cannabis and into harder stuff, and how Emma gave into her friend and got badly drunk and got lost in the forest, and how the two boys looked on Google to find out what cannabis could do to them.
The next act that came on was Girls Can’t Catch. ( I was offended by their name.) Then PACE Drama Group came on. They put on a play about moving up to high school and how it can change people. One of the people played someone called Chantel, who always wanted to be an athlete, quit her athletics group just to hang out with her so called friend Jessica, who got her into alcohol. And the other person Robbie who played football started hanging out with his older brother to fit in, but while doing that started to copy his brother and also started taking drugs. The last one, Rachel, stayed the same and didn’t get into drugs or alcohol. In the end Chantel either died or became unconscious because she to drunk. After PACE Stevie Hoang came on and sung two songs then Fortrose Academy Choir came on to finish the event.
My favourite part was PACE and most of the singers, but the whole event was fun and very educational

Last Tuesday my class and I went to Abriachan up near Loch Ness. It was nice. There was no noise at all. There was a park. It had a big climbing frame, tyre swing and a tight rope. The first thing we did was a card guessing game because we had to pretend that we were all on a mountian and we had to put creature cards where we thought they lived. Then we had our snack after the big journey. After that happend we went on a walk to plant our trees. There were lots of trees, bugs and flowers. We planted our own trees. It was fun. I picked an oak tree.We also went into a burn to collect little creatures to see what there was.
For lunch we went to a writing centre in the middle of nowhere. It smelt really bad but as soon as we had finished the whole class had a good game of tig. In the writing centre we all had to write a poem about a creature, bug or something we had seen in the day. I personaly picked the hills/view. No-one guessed what it was. The whole day was an extremely good laugh.

For the last few weeks we have had drumming lessons from Mike Simpson. There are two groups and he takes one at a time. The first week we did the basics of drumming. We use an electronic drum kit.The first week we just learnt how to play two drum pads one called the side drum and the hi-hat. It was hard at first but now it is easy peasylemon squeasy. The second week we learned how to play along to a tune and learnt another pad.Last week we practised doing our 8 beat note. We could only do 4 at the start so we all thought the 8 beat would be really hard but it was easy.Next week we are getting a free week so we can do what we want from what we have learnt. It will be good fun we cant wait!

On the 6/05/2010 we went to Cameron Barracks for Safe Highlanders. We had lots of fun and learned so much. We will tell you some of the things that we did.
There was nine stations that we had to go to with a group leader. Our station number was 4 and there we learned about how dangerous a farm can be.First the lady told us to press 5 red buttons on a model farm at a time and there was 1 green button which was the safe zone the red ones were non playareas. The lady’s assistant showed us a video of how easily you could die on a farm, the most interesting death was when a boy fell in a pile of cow and pig manure and drowned.there was other deaths like when a pile of scaffolding fell on a little boy.A stupid kid runs over his own friend with a tractor and a girl goes into a grain silo when the farmer just shuts the door and presses the button.
SO DONT PLAY IN FARMS!!!!!!!!!!

This week we had American Football on Wednesday and we are getting it for two more weeks. The people who are coaching us are Inverness Blitz there are three coaches. This week we were doing some games of flag tig which is everyone gets two flags on a belt on your waist and you have to run about and steal the others flags but not let people get your flags. Then we practised some short passing for a bit then moved on to long passes we were pretty good.Another game we played was the coaches threw the balls over our heads then we had to run and catch the ball. The last game we played was a race there was four teams we lined up about five meters apart then when the coach blow his whistle. When we stated first you passed the ball to the first person then they ran back and give it to you then you throw the ball to the second person then they run back to you then you throw to the last person then they run to you as guick as possible then the first team back wins!!!
